Welcome to my professional portfolio – I'm Cecilia Pereira, a seasoned instructional designer dedicated to crafting compelling and results-driven learning experiences.
Currently, I proudly serve as the Director of Curriculum and Assessment at Shady Lane School, a distinguished early childhood education institution guided by the principles of diverse methods, inclusion, mutual learning, and the arts. Although fairly new to this role, I have already spearheaded the launch of a comprehensive school-wide curriculum, mentored educators, facilitated state and national accreditation renewals, and successfully implemented updates to our database and the launch of our parent engagement app. Additionally, I orchestrated various training sessions, including a much needed update of the onboarding process. A significant highlight of my achievements to date was securing the Duolingo Early Learners First grant through a captivating video application on behalf of Shady Lane School.
Simultaneously, I am on the verge of completing my Master's degree in Education, Training, and Instructional Technology, scheduled for December. This academic journey has not only sharpened my expertise in education and technology but has also enhanced my leadership skills. Throughout my studies, I consistently upheld a fundamental philosophy – always prioritize the learner and tailor solutions to their needs. This mindset defines my approach to every project, ensuring a thorough understanding of the problem's implications, particularly for the key audience involved.
Beyond my professional endeavors, I cherish quality time with my family, engaging in game nights, indulging in literature, and attending community events. As a dedicated professional, I am committed to developing visually captivating and impactful learning experiences that empower individuals to achieve their fullest potential.

AGILE
Encountering the Agile process during my degree program, I swiftly recognized its seamless alignment with my instructional design approach. Drawing parallels to my experiences in the dynamic field of early childhood education and the adaptive demands of the non-profit sector, I've come to appreciate the pivotal role of agility in successfully navigating project complexities. In the realm of instructional design, where responsiveness is paramount, Agile stands out as my preferred methodology. Its capacity to foster swift collaboration within a team, coupled with the flexibility to adjust strategies on the fly, aligns perfectly with the ever-evolving nature of various projects. Prioritizing the needs of both learners and stakeholders, I've embraced Agile as my go-to design approach. Its adaptability and emphasis on collaboration align perfectly with my commitment to creating effective and learner-centric instructional design solutions.
Tinkerer at Heart
At heart, I consider myself a perpetual learner and a dedicated tinkerer. I hold the firm belief that the pursuit of knowledge should never cease, whether through formal education or personal exploration. My joy lies in acquiring new skills and uncovering the potential of innovative programs and tools. I derive immense satisfaction from troubleshooting and problem-solving, whether it's addressing technological glitches or navigating organizational challenges. I view challenges as opportunities for exploration and growth. Beyond identifying the root of an issue, I relish evaluating solutions with the mindfulness of their impact on individuals and the broader context. This passion for continual learning and hands-on problem-solving shapes my approach to instructional design, ensuring a dynamic and forward-thinking perspective in creating effective learning experiences.
Leveling Up Learning
Fueled by a lifelong love for games, I have naturally woven the principles of gamification into my instructional design approach. Growing up, my family gatherings were always filled with spirited games, fostering a connection, competitiveness, and a sense of shared joy. This affinity for the engaging dynamics of games has become an integral part of my design philosophy. Initially discovering its efficacy while working with children, where teaching through games proved both effortless and impactful, I have continued to harness the power of gamification in my work with adults. Beyond merely keeping the audience focused, I've observed that gamification injects an extra layer of engagement, creating a memorable and immersive learning experience. In my instructional designs, I aim to leverage the inherent allure of games to not only captivate learners but to leave a lasting impression that extends far beyond the learning moment.
